With all that has been cancelled or missed this year, ranging from sporting events (The Olympics), as well as personal vacations and face-to-face social events, it is easy to focus on the “have-nots.” So much time is spent thinking how things could be better right now and we end up overlooking the simple beauty that life has to offer every day.
So many things are taken for granted, like living in a safe country and having a home in which to relax. Although summer can be challenging in many parts of Japan, the sun is the very thing that brings the great seasonal foods we can enjoy year-round. Even rainy season is looked upon with some dread, but with the rain comes cooler temperatures to give us some respite from the heat. In the end we can’t do anything to change the weather, so it is easier to set our mind to appreciate whatever weather we are given.
Focusing on what we have will lead us all to a deeper sense of happiness and appreciation for the amazing things all around us. Above all, and especially this year, we must be thankful for each and every day we wake up healthy.
In three words I can sum up everything I’ve learned about life. It goes on.
To quote the American poet Robert Frost, “In three words I can sum up everything I’ve learned about life. It goes on.” With that in mind, we can look at life through many lenses, but we should always choose the one that gives us the best light. So, as we head into this new month, let’s be optimistic that brighter days are surely ahead. At the same time, let’s remember that each day along the way has its share of brightness.
Wishing you health and happiness!
