Hi friends!

Guess which country ranked number one out of the 117 economies covered in the 2021 Travel and Tourism Index? In case you hadn’t heard, it was Japan. Yes, Japan was voted number one, an unprecedented ranking for the country. It earned this high status for its number of cultural resources as well as infrastructure. Following Japan, are the United States and Spain, respectively.

You may remember a couple of months back I wrote about Japan not getting the respect it deserves with regard to the World Happiness ranking. Well, this is certainly a step in the right direction and I hope that it translates to a higher happiness ranking for Japan next year.

The time of this honorable distinction couldn’t have come at a better time. After being virtually closed for over two years, Japan will open its borders to tourists in about 10 days. This number one ranking has put Japan in the spotlight and will surely attract visitors eager to see all the great things that the country has to offer, world heritage sites, historical places, and great food, to name a few.

One thing that gives me great pleasure is when guests from overseas visit, especially first-timers. They marvel at all the things in Japan that I sometimes take for granted; safety, hygiene, punctual transportation, high service levels and, of course, the kindness of people. Spending time with visitors allows me to see Japan through their eyes and reminds me of just how fortunate I am to have established my life and career here. So, here’s to Japan getting the recognition that it truly deserves! On top of the world, indeed!!!

Wishing you health and happiness always.
